Secrets of the Radcliffe Camera: A New Typewriter Artwork is Coming

A sneaky peek of my next on-location project!
A Typewritten Tribute to Oxford
In early July, I had the rare honour of being granted special permission by Oxford University's Bodleian Library to type on location in Radcliffe Square. Framed by the historic colleges of Oxford, I set up my 1930’s Smith Premier typewriter in front of the Radcliffe Camera; one of the most iconic and architecturally distinctive buildings in the city.
I cannot wait to share the final artwork with you. Below, you’ll find a sneak peek at some close-up details and photos from my visit. Consider it a little taster before the big reveal on Tuesday 5th August when the finished work will be unveiled in a collaborative Instagram post between myself and the Bodleian Library.

Why Oxford? A Place of Ideas and Imagination
Founded in the 12th century, Oxford University is the oldest university in the English-speaking world. It has educated some of the greatest minds in history. Authors like J.R.R. Tolkien and Oscar Wilde, scientists such as Stephen Hawking and Dorothy Hodgkin, and world leaders including Indira Gandhi and 30 British Prime Ministers.
The Bodleian Library, established in 1602, is one of the oldest libraries in Europe and one of the most important in the UK. Its reading rooms have served generations of thinkers, writers and scholars, and its collections include everything from Shakespeare’s First Folio to the original manuscripts of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
The Radcliffe Camera, where this new piece was created, is a jewel at the heart of Oxford. Designed by James Gibbs and completed in 1749, it is the earliest circular library building in England and remains an active part of the Bodleian’s reading rooms.
