My Interview with ABC News
I was recently contacted by Danny New, the “Mr. Positivity” Reporter for ABC News. Danny creates uplifting stories that shine a spotlight on people who are bringing joy, creativity, and positive change into the world. His reports appear on ABC’s national morning shows, celebrating inspiring achievements and feel-good human stories.
Today, I will be appearing on ABC News to talk about my typewriter art and the journey that has led me here. It is an incredible opportunity to share the craft, the process, and the passion that goes into every typed letter. I hope you get a chance to see it. Don’t worry if you miss it, because the news story will also be posted on ABC World News Now Instagram later today.
The Forsytes: New Typewriter Art Collaboration
I am very excited to share one of my latest collaborations with Channel 5 for their brand new drama series The Forsytes. This project features a portrait of Irene, portrayed by Millie Gibson, known memorably for her role as Ruby Sunday in Doctor Who. The artwork was typed entirely on one of my 1930’s Smith Premier secretarial typewriters.
This artwork took a full week to complete. Every detail, every shadow, every strand of hair is built from hundreds of thousands of individually typed letters, numbers, and punctuation marks.
Inspired by the drama, ambition, and legacy at the heart of The Forsytes, I have included several hidden typed messages throughout the piece that reference themes and details from the show. For example, “forbidden desire, expectation and status.” They are subtle, and some are very well disguised. If you enjoy a challenge, you may like to try spotting them!
I was honoured to spot that actor Millie Gibson left a comment on the video of her portrait which reads: “Wow this is unreal !!! Thank you so much.”
You can watch the full video documenting the creation of this artwork here.
I am very proud of this project and grateful to Channel 5 for the opportunity to bring the world of The Forsytes to the typewriter. I hope you enjoy the portrait and the series itself.
